Polity in The Ramayana

The Ramayana is the oldest work of ornate poetry in Sanskrit literature. At the same time, it depicts a clear political scene of its age. The concept of welfare state was well developed and deeply engraved on the minds of the king, and the people of the times. The king took upon himself the responsibility to provide a happy, secure life to his people, and the people on their part looked upon the state as a beneficent institution.
